The Scorcher is a lightweight, dry chemical-fueled, man-portable flamethrower manufactured by the Coalition of Ordered Governments, and some help from the Gurkin Nationalist Mechansim Assosiation but no longer in active production. It was designed during the Pendulum Wars as a weapon to provide devastating close-range punch and with the ability to deal with large numbers of foes quickly. It has a maximum range of about 10 meters. It most likely fell out of favor because of its limited ammunition capacity; though compatible with a backpack tank that could dramatically increase its ammo capacity, this had the unpleasant side-effect of potentially turning the wielder into a living bomb, were the backpack tanks shot. In addition to damaging the target, the Scorcher lights them on fire, causing them to take minor damage over the next second or two.
Though no longer in active production, the weapon exists in large quantities and can be found extensively in the field with both the COG and the Locust Horde. It is favored extensively by the latter, who think nothing of arming a Grenadier or Boomer with one in lieu of a Shotgun or Boomshot, giving them additional armor, and packing him with backpack fuel tanks. Grenadiers thus armed are called Flame Grenadiers, and Boomers thus armed are called Flame Boomers.
The Scorcher is a deadly close combat weapon, with the single highest concentrated damage rating in the game, and nothing can beat its concentrated damage over a few seconds - this weapon makes even Gnasher Shotgun fans break out in hives. It also is by far the most accurate blind-fired weapon, and easily the one of the scariest weapons period to.
